Why post-treatment care is crucial for Cryolipolysis

There are a few things that you can do to help get the best results out of your Cryolipolysis treatment during the 12 weeks after your appointment.

The importance of Cryolipolysis after-care

The best part about Cryolipolysis (or fat-freezing) is that the results are permanent. They gradually happen after your treatment during a period of up to 12 weeks, without you having to do anything at all! However, there are a few things that you can do to help get the best results out of your Cryolipolysis treatment during the 12 weeks after your appointment.

First of all, understanding how Cryolipolysis works is the key to knowing how to assist your body in obtaining optimal results from your fat freezing.

Cryolipolysis is a controlled cooling technique that cools the temperature of a fat pocket down to a minimum of -9 degrees. Science has shown us that fat cells (or adipose cells) do not withstand a temperature below -1 degrees; therefore the fat cells are permanently damaged and go through a slow cell death. They die off after your treatment and are slowly cleared out of the body via your lymphatic system and your liver, and eliminated as waste. Cryolipolysis is very effective and is quite a ‘cool’ technology! The fact that it takes a little while to see the results means that the treatment is non-invasive and doesn’t promote any skin laxity (loose skin) in the area.

As the key to Cryolipolysis results are your body’s own elimination processes, it’s important to make sure that these are working as best as they can be. This is why your therapist will take a thorough diet and lifestyle analysis during your complimentary consultation because they want to ensure that you get optimal results from your Cryolipolysis.

There are a few key diet and lifestyle factors that can make sure your elimination processes are supported so that the frozen fat cells die off and leave the body nice and efficiently.

Water intake

Hydration is very important for your lymphatic system and waste elimination to function properly. The more water that you drink, the more you are ‘flushing’ out your system. Ideally we want you to drink at least 2 litres of water per day. A more accurate calculation for your individual needs is to drink 33mls per kilogram of bodyweight per day (e.g. 33 x 65 =  2145mls or 2.1L for a 65kg person). You may need to adjust this amount for strenuous exercise or hot weather, and if you drink well over this amount, don’t forget your electrolytes!

Liver function

The liver is the detoxifying and metabolising organ of the body. The destroyed fat cells from your Cryolipolysis will be carried from the site of treatment through your lymphatic system to your liver to be processed, and will then enter your digestive tract to be eliminated as waste from your body. The liver needs vitamins, minerals, and amino acids for it to function well. If your therapist feels that you may need some supplementation for liver support, your clinic’s qualified nutritionist can recommend or prescribe some supplements for you.

Fibre

Fibre is an important part of a healthy digestive tract and acts as a ‘broom’ for your intestines. Lots of fibre will bind to the remains of your fat cells to clear them out of the body. Fibre is great for weight management as well, as it keeps you fuller for longer between meals, and also binds to excess fats in your digestive tract for elimination. Your therapist will make sure that you are eating enough fibre in your daily diet – such as fruits, vegetables, and wholegrains.

Massage

Many of the scientific journals on Cryolipolysis mention that massage of the treatment area in the weeks following the treatment is a great idea to help your results. Manual stimulation in the form of massage is very beneficial to assist the breakdown of those fat cells and move them in to your lymphatic system. A great way to do this is to massage the area in the shower or bath with a body wash, followed by a beautiful body balm after your shower. FillMed’s Skin Perfusion Nourishing Body Balm (insert hyperlink) is perfect for this, plus it smells amazing and is so luxurious.

So there you have it! By following the above steps you can help to get the best results from your fat-freezing, and look after your best investment – yourself. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your therapist, and we look forward to seeing you at your next appointment!
