The Benefits of Collagen

Benefits of Collagen

Whether it’s loose skin, wrinkles or the appearance of cellulite, what they have in common is our largest organ – the skin. One of the things our clients ask most is, how can I keep my skin glowing at home?

The answer? Collagen.

What exactly is collagen?
Collagen is the main structural protein found in skin and other connective tissue and as such is the most abundant protein in the human body. It is made up of long-chain amino acids wound together. Naturally occurring collagen is not easily absorbed by the body as these long-chain amino acids are too large to pass into the bloodstream. To be useful to the body, collagen must be hydrolysed before it is consumed. There are different types of collagen, each of which benefit different parts of the body. Our favourite go-to collagen is SWIISH Glow collagen, which contains skin specific Type I collagen.

In clinical studies, Type I collagen has been shown to help repair and preserve the structural integrity of skin, hair, gut and nail health specifically. Thereby helping to reduce visible signs of ageing like wrinkles or cellulite. Collagen can also assist in healing the gut lining (which is made with skin).

Why is collagen so amazing for skin?
From around the age of 21, natural collagen production in the body starts to diminish. By the age of 30, the amount of collagen in the body is approximately half of what it was at 18. Because more collagen cannot be naturally reproduced by the body, it needs to be consumed or stimulated with radio frequency or HIFU. Hence why collagen supplementation is an important addition for fresh, glowing skin.

How can I maximise my treatment results?
Whether your concern is anti-ageing, firmer more lifted skin, or reducing the appearance of cellulite, a collagen supplement alongside your treatment program can help you get the most from your skin treatment. After all, it’s not just about what we do on the outside, but also caring for and supporting our bodies on the inside. Aim for 10g of collagen per day (2 servings of any SWIISH Glow collagen) to give your skin some extra love.

Treatments that love collagen supplements:

1. Concerned with cellulite reduction? Fear not.

Cellulite is simply fat that has permeated through weak skin tissue. Therefore. we use a combination of technologies to reduce fat and strengthen skin tissue.

Cavitation is a natural phenomenon based on low frequency ultrasound. The ultrasound produces a strong wave of pressure to the fat cell membranes. A fat cell membrane cannot withstand this pressure and therefore disintegrates into a liquid state. The result is natural fat loss.

Radio frequency energy penetrates the skin layers to selectively heat the skin tissue. The local heating causes an immediate contraction of collagen fibres, as well as the production of new collagen and elastin fibres. The regeneration of the collagen and elastin deposits help to prevent the future permeation of fat cells within that area, as the skin layers tighten to create a smoother, healthier and younger looking skin.

2. Ulfit HIFU is the latest and most advanced, medical grade skin tightening technology, that not only smooths out wrinkles but gives your whole face a non-surgical facelift. Ulfit HIFU works via micro focused ultrasound which heats targeted tissue to 60 degrees. This causes the proteins in the tissue to coagulate, and contract causing an immediate reduction in wrinkles and skin laxity, and triggers the production of collagen and elastin.

It specifically targets the SMAS (Superficial muscular aponeurotic system) layer of the face, the layer that controls the muscles and is manipulated during facial cosmetic surgery. Ulfit is the closest look you can get to surgery, without surgery!

3. Skin Rejuvenation using Fillmed – Peel + NCTF Needling + Mask:
A nutritive solution skin booster for radiant, even and hydrated skin. NCTF is a unique anti-ageing poly-revitalizing complex that nourishes the epidermis with the ingredients that it needs to thrive. It REBOOT’s THE FIBROBLASTS, rehydrates the skin, improves pore size, and helps to improve skin tone and radiance. The NCTF is administered using a derma micro-needle roller. During the treatment we also give you a light peel, which contains gluconolactone. This eliminates dullness, fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment is finished with a soothing and restorative hyaluronic acid youth mask, which helps to plump the skin. For more information please click here.
