Coolsculpting vs Clatuu – Which Fat Freezing Device Works Best?

Liposuction isn’t the only available option when you want to get rid of stubborn pockets of body fat. You can freeze the fat to get rid of it using cryolipolysis treatments like CoolSculpting or Clatuu freezing.

Here we discuss CoolSculpting vs Clatuu cryolipolysis and the technologies available to help provide you with information, so you can make the best decision for your goals.

Hundreds of thousands of people undergo fat-busting surgery every year. But liposuction comes with the risks that any surgery carries. Something could go wrong during the procedure or you could end up with an infection.

And that’s without mentioning the pain and discomfort that comes after.

There has to be an alternative.

Enter cryolipolysis. This is the technical name for a fat reduction technique using fat freezing to help you lose those unwanted pounds. However, individuals with certain medical conditions, such as blood protein disease and cold agglutinin disease, should not undergo CoolSculpting.

It’s become more popular in recent years, which means there are several devices on the market. Which device your practitioner uses will have an effect on the results that you see.

Today, we are talking about the origins of Coolsculpting, and leading Clatuu fat freezing technology.

Wait… Does Freezing Fat Actually Work? Yes, It Kills Fat Cells According To Harvard

That’s a good question. To answer it, we’re going to look at the work of a team of Harvard scientists.

In 2004, this team of scientists uncovered the secrets behind fat freezing. They found that you can use extreme cold to effectively destroy fat cells.

That differs from the normal methods of weight loss that most people use. Through diet and exercise, you can shrink the fat cells in your body. But this new technique – which the team dubbed cryolipolysis – actually gets rid of the fat altogether.

Here’s how it works.

Practitioners use a special device to lower the temperature of the treatment area. Typically, coolsculpting will lower it below the freezing point of water.

The reason for this is that your fat cells need certain conditions to survive. By freezing them, you’re essentially robbing them of these conditions. You’re putting them in a state that makes it impossible for them to survive.

This causes the cells to crystallize and die. These dead fat cells then break down into smaller fragments and get absorbed into your body’s natural mechanisms. Your body then uses the energy that the cells contain and gets rid of the waste product. The destroyed fat cells are permanently removed by the immune system over time, leading to a noticeable reduction in treated areas.

The key here is that this is a permanent treatment. By the end, you’ll lose up to 30% of the fat cells in the treatment area, permanently.

The Harvard scientists’ discovery has undergone more extensive research since 2004.

In 2014, researchers from the Departments of Dermatology at both Louisiana State University and Weill Cornel Medical College took a closer look at fat freezing. They found that it achieved an average patient satisfaction rate of 73%, with 86% of people seeing demonstrable improvement.

The conclusion is that freezing fat not only works, but it works far better than many may have thought. It achieves results in the vast majority of cases.

The Rise of Coolsculpting for Unwanted Fat

In 2008, further fat freezing experiments took place. Using pigs as the research subjects, the studies proved that the idea worked. With the research proven, manufacturers started looking for ways to put fat freezing into practice via coolsculpting.

That’s when researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School decided to team up. Dieter Manstein and Rox Anderson created the fat freezing device that was commercialised under the Coolsculpting name and put the ideas into practice.

The device underwent clinical trials in 2008. The team then spent several years getting approvals for the device. In 2010, they received approval from America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use on the flanks. It received further approval in 2012 for use on the stomach. Another approval for use on the thighs came in 2015.

A rare but serious side effect of CoolSculpting is paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, where treated fat cells increase in size instead of reducing. While not physically dangerous, it can necessitate subsequent surgical interventions such as liposuction to correct the enlarged areas.

It’s fair to say that Coolsculpting was the original standard bearer for cryolipolysis. It’s the name that a lot of those who’ve heard of the technique automatically gravitate to.

However, there are other fat freezing technologies available today besides Coolsculpting.

Introducing Clatuu

Introduced in 2015, Clatuu builds on the same technology concept of cryolipolysis fat freezing as CoolSculpting. Both devices freeze your fat in order to destroy it. As such, they both offer a completely non-invasive procedure for fat reduction that’s a viable alternative to surgical liposuction, specifically targeting excess fat and unwanted fat in localized areas.

The key with Clatuu is that it builds on the technology that was behind CoolSculpting. A lot of time has passed since the Harvard researchers came up with the cryolipolysis idea in the early 2000’s.

Clatuu is a modern and leading fat freezing technology and is seen as a competitor to CoolSculpting and other technologies.

Clatuu also achieves exemplary customer satisfaction rates. A study from Royal North Shore Hospital found that 89% of Clatuu users came away satisfied.

Clatuu uses dual 360 degree cooling applicators for fast, even, and effective treatment compared to other technologies and older models of machines.

That compares favourably to the 2014 study mentioned above. In fact, 16% more people come away feeling satisfied than the average for fat freezing found in that study.

That leads us to the key question.

Which of these devices is the right device for you?

Let’s take a look at the key features to assess the pros and cons of each device.

Feature #1 – Number of Applicators

Coolsculpting comes with a single applicator and double applicator. That’s fairly standard across these types of devices.

Clatuu also has two applicators and come in varying shapes and sizes to accommodate various bodies and concern areas. No two bodies are the same, so more applicator options mean a more individualised treatment plan.

The obvious benefit is that with more applicator options available, the more we can tailor the treatment to fit you at the specific treatment site.

Feature #2 – Cooling Speed

The 360 dual cooling applicator technology built into Clatuu uses the latest fat freezing methods on the market. The end result is a device that freezes 30% faster than other technologies such as coolsculpting. Patients typically feel intense cold during the initial moments of the treatment, which gradually becomes more bearable as the area numbs.

Couple that with the fact that the applicators covers a larger or more customised treatment area and you can see that Clatuu saves a lot more time compared with other technologies. This obviously improves convenience levels for those undergoing fat reduction treatment and seeking a non-invasive alternative.

But there’s another benefit that’s more directly applicable to practitioners. Faster cooling speeds over larger treatment areas mean that they can finish treatments faster. That means they may be able to slot more treatments into a day than they would using other technologies.

Feature #3 – Cost

The cost to consumers gets affected by two things – applicators and licensing.

Firstly, the dual applicators in Clatuu allow for two treatments to take place at one time. Most practitioners don’t double their charges for this. As a result, the consumer saves money.

Coolsculpting is owned by a parent company which then charges a licensing fee to everybody who wishes to use it. That can raise costs for the practitioner, which typically gets passed onto the consumer.

That’s not an issue with Clatuu. Buying the device does not require the purchase of a license, which means there are no extra fees beyond the device cost itself. As a result, practitioners have the opportunity to pass savings back to their clients.

Again, this lowers the cost of treatment using Clatuu. Plus, practitioners benefit from a more cost-effective system. This allows them some more flexibility in their pricing models. Unlike weight loss surgery, non-surgical fat reduction methods like Clatuu and CoolSculpting® are designed for specific problem areas and can be more cost-effective. Feature #4 – Treatment Areas and Treatment Site

Both Clatuu and Coolsculpting have applicators that allow for the treatment of the key women’s and men’s fat reduction areas. These include the stomach, thighs, and back, effectively targeting visible fat bulges in these specific areas.

Previously, Coolsculpting had the advantage in this department. As well as these major areas, that device had an applicator that allowed for fat reduction in the chin area. Clatuu didn’t originally offer a similar applicator.

However, the Flat Mini and Wing Mini applicators now provide for this market as well. Clatuu also has special applicators for freezing stubborn fat behind the legs, inner thighs and outer thighs to suit different body shapes.

The Final Word

All of this brings us back to our original question. Coolsculpting vs Clatuu, which technology is right for you?

On the strength of this evidence, Clatuu appears to be the market leader when it comes to freezing fat. The device offers more effective fat freezing that covers a larger treatment area and also has more applicator options for tailoring to more body shapes. It’s effective and fast, with two 360 degree cooling applicators, which can be used in the same treatment. Plus, the lack of licensing requirements means that it’s more cost-effective for both practitioners and consumers.

All of this isn’t to say that Coolsculpting or other technologies don’t provide effective treatment. It does and it is very much a viable alternative to surgical liposuction. However, CoolSculpting is not intended for individuals seeking weight loss surgery and those with a rare autoimmune disease should consult a medical professional before undergoing the treatment.
